  • Record rainfall in downtown Sacramento, CA with 1.26” was measured on Sunday, January 6. This breaks the old record 1.14” set in 1993.
  • Due to storms in the west, over 100,000 people were without power the morning of Monday, January 7.
  • A record snowfall of 12.3” was set at Sault Ste. Marie, MI on Monday, January 7. This breaks the old record of 9.8” set in 1985.
  • On Tuesday, January 8, there was a confirmed EF1 tornado in Cortland, OH (Trumbull County). A few facts about the rarity of this:
    • NO tornadoes have been recorded in Trumbull Co. OH since 1950
    • Only 6 tornadoes have occurred in the entire state during the month of January
    • The last January tornado was and EF0 on January 29, 2008
  • Winter Storm Gia was officially named on Thursday, January 10. As of 8a on Friday, January 11, over 40 million people were under Winter Weather Alerts.
