WATCH: Tornado Hits The Weather Channel

On Wednesday, June 20, The Weather Channel was hit by a tornado. Before you panic, no your favorite TV channel wasn’t obliterated by a natural disaster. The tornado was a simulation created by Immersive Mixed Reality.

By using Immersive Mixed Reality (IMR), viewers were able to experience weather in ways never seen on Live TV before now. IMR is where the technology disappears and what you see becomes reality. Hyper-realistic visuals recreate the world and control the weather in the surrounding environment. It’s an intersection of technology, science, and design and will change the way the network can display weather to audiences. Take a look at the amazing experience below:

How amazing, right? Through this technology, The Weather Channel will be able to take you inside the weather like never before.

  1. Wow, incredible stuff. I wish Verizon would bring back TWC to FIOS but all my asking has fallen on deaf ears. At least I can see these life saving videos on my computer but I miss you so much. Keep up the good work! Maybe some day I will see you again on TV.

  2. I saw this on TV yesterday and watched Jim ducking from a giant jet plane this morning that appeared to be heading right at him on the set. Very cool stuff. 🙂
