  • The morning of Sunday, July 8, tropical storm Chris formed. Climatologically, the 3rd Atlantic storm isn’t named until August 13th, so Chris was over a month ahead of average! Also, the last time we had two storms named back-to-back in July was in 2011 (Bret and Cindy).
  • Hurricane Chris is the second hurricane to form this July. Last time there were 2 July hurricanes was July 2008 (Bertha and Dolly)
  • Tucson, AZ: As of 5p on July 9, the city received 1.01″ of rain which was a daily record. (Previous 0.74″ in 1932!)
  • Record Daily Max Rainfall Set in Phoenix, AZ: Record daily max rainfall set on Monday, July 9. .56″ was recorded, breaking the old record of .44″ set in 1996.
  • Phoenix’s average monthly rainfall for July is 1.05”, but they received almost half of their monthly rainfall by Tuesday, July 10.
    • This is the 1st day of measurable rainfall Phoenix has seen in 120 days when 0.4” fell on March 11.
    • This is the highest single day rainfall total since August 3, 2017 when 0.92” fell.
