Women in Weather: Liana Brackett

This week we are celebrating the wonderful women at The Weather Channel! Not only are they strong and smart scientists, but they are also an inspiration to millions of females who are in, or will be, working in STEM fields.

Liana Brackett is an on-camera meteorologist for The Weather Channel, who joined the network in 2017 from Fox 12 Oregon in Portland, Oregon where she served as meteorologist.

Originally raised in Temecula, California, Brackett began her weather journey at Arizona State University where she initially studied broadcast meteorology. Fascinated with weather forecasting, she decided to change her major and transfer to University of California, Davis to study meteorology. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Science in 2009.

Liana started her career working as a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Portland, Oregon. She spent over six years issuing watches, warnings, and advisories for southwest Washington and northwest Oregon. She received several awards for outstanding forecasting and teamwork during significant weather outbreaks with the National Weather Service.

We asked The Weather Channel’s female on-camera meteorologists to answer questions about their fellow co-worker, and this is what they had to say about the wonderful Liana Brackett.

3. How is Liana Brackett an inspiration to other females interested in weather and science?
Liana is an inspiration to other females interested in weather and science because of her background.  She started as a forecaster in meteorology – a very male-dominated field – and then went on to work in local TV and The Weather Channel.  She’s proof that hard work is the way to follow your dreams. – Jen Carfagno

6. Liana Brackett is a role model in the meteorology field because…
Liana has filled in recently on AMHQ Weekends, so I have had a better chance to get to know her. She has worked with the National Weather Service, so it’s great to get her perspective on different weather events. She is also from the west coast (I’m an east coaster) so I get to learn some new geographical things when we work together. – Kelly Cass

Liana Brackett is an invaluable addition to The Weather Channel family and she has shown time and time again how wonderful of a role model she is to women everywhere! We’re grateful for the unmatched expertise and poise she brings to the network.

  1. It is “Lihammer” time with our Latina-fare meteorologist @liana-brackett, aka the “queen of weather selfies”! Liana, with your comedy skills, you would be a perfect guest on “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” someday. @kcass, it is affirmative to say that Liana’s tenacity through hard work makes our dreams come true. I adore that Liana welcomes weather geeks like me “with open arms”. That shows her tender heart for those who care. Liana is a perfect role model for women who want to become meteorologists someday. Do it the Liana way, and we shall prevail. #lianastrong 😀
