thunderstorm safety

      how do I tell how far away a thunderstorm is so I can stay safe during one thanks

      First, if you are close enough to hear thunder, your are close enough to be struck by lightning, so getting inside is always the best bet.

      There are many apps you can use that let you draw out a distance from the radar to your location.

      And finally, when you see lightning, start counting the seconds until you hear the thunder and then divide by 5.  For example if between the lightning and the thunder you count 10 seconds, divide that by 5 to get 2… you are roughly two miles from the storm.
