9 Spring Flower Festivals Worth Visiting

It’s officially spring and we cannot wait until flowers begin blooming across the country! There’s nothing like the spectacle of blossoms in the warm springtime. To kick off the new season we wanted to showcase festivals that not only offer fun activities and entertainment, but ones that also show off beautiful flowers!

National Cherry Blossom Festival

Where: Washington, D.C.

When: March 17-April 15

This world-renowned festival is the perfect kick-off for the spring season! Millions of people attend DC’s Cherry Blossom Festival to experience the beauty of nature and partake in the countless festival activities. There’s something to do every day during this nearly month-long festival, whether it’s a garden tour, cherry blossom cruise, food crawl, gallery exhibition, or performances.

Highlight Events: Opening Ceremony, Kite Festival, Petalpalooza, Cherry Blast presented with Artechouse (which is an immersive digital experience where you can step into “a moonlit floating environment where larger than life koi fish and colorful cherry blossom petals react to your presence.”)

Asheville’s Biltmore Blooms 

Where: Asheville, North Carolina

When: March 20- May 24

While this festival may not be a blown-out, parade-infused event, it’s one that should most definitely be on your must-see list. With over 130,000 blooms all over the Biltmore Gardens, it’s a stunning sight that has to be seen to be believed. There are endless kinds of flowers planted and gardened to perfection in two exhibitions around the estate.

Skagit Valley Tulip Festival

Where: Mount Vernon, Washington

If you’ve ever wanted to feel like you’re in a painting, this is the festival for you. A sea of tulips can be found at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, in row after row as far as the eye can see! This festival also offers fun activities and entertainment, like street fairs, art galleries, home and garden shows, and races.

Bluebonnet Festival

Where: Burnet, Texas

Texas is known for putting on some pretty amazing fairs, carnivals, and festivals, and the Bluebonnet Festival is no exception! Festival goers can enjoy three days jam-packed with carnival games and events, live music, local craft and art vendors, some classic Texas food, and the Bluebonnet Festival Grand Parade. This festival is sure to help you ring in the spring season and enjoy a classic, go-big-or-go-home festival.

Dogwood-Azalea Festival

Where: Charleston, Missouri

Fodor’s Travel selected this festival as one of the country’s best spring flower festivals, so it’s no surprise it made our list! The theme for this year is, “It’s Simply Golden”, and if I were to guess, that’d be a great description of festival attendees’ experience. Since it’s held during peak bloom time for dogwoods and azaleas, there will not only be beautiful views, but endless fun events for the whole family as well. Activities include the carnival, pioneer reenactments, home tours, musical entertainment, a parade, and so much more.

California Poppy Festival 

Where: Lancaster, California

There’s nothing more magical than being in a sea of bright orange poppies. That’s why you should add the California Poppy Festival to your bucket list! This festival website says it has “over 55 acres of activities”, so visitors should be prepared and wear good walking shoes, sunscreen, and stay hydrated as they enjoy the farmers market, art and crafts, games, and everything from traditional carnival foods to exotic ethnic foods.

Daffodil Festival

A short but mighty spring festival, the Daffodil Festival in Nantucket is anything but dull. There are amazing events you can attend every single minute of the day, such as live performances, tours of the island, picnics, and of course, parades. Take a look at the amazing lineup events if you don’t believe me when I say this festival will be a blast! Also, daffodils are required as a part of the dress code, so it’s safe to say festival-goers wear really creative and out-of-the-box get-ups!

Tulip Time

This Dutch-inspired festival is sure to bring lots of fun and breathtaking sights to all visitors. The nine day festival hosts Dutch dances, bloom exhibitions, and daily carnivals. If you were thinking people that attend Tulip Time dress up in classic Dutch garb, you are absolutely correct. Even the dogs get dressed up for the Dutch Dog Parade!

Rochester Lilac Festival

Where: Rochester, New York

No matter how many time one attends the Rochester Lilac Festival, it will never be the same experience. There are always new and exciting attractions added to the festival! Around every corner lies magnificent lilac blooms (1,200 lilac bushes, to be exact), live music, games, activities, and more. The musical lineup is perhaps one of the most impressive features, with 15 acts spanning over the 10 day festival. The Rochester Lilac Festival will surely get you in the mood for spring with the unbeatable views of blooms and lively outdoor atmosphere.
